Rwanda Shuts Down Dozens of Firms in Illegal Alcohol Crackdown

Rwandan authorities are intensifying their crackdown on illicit alcohol production and distribution across the country, shutting down an additional 27 companies. The latest closures follow similar action over the weekend, when 109 distilleries were forced to stop operations.
The Ministry of Health reported that toxic products have caused 50 deaths so far this year, with hundreds more requiring medical treatment after consuming illicit alcohol. The Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority ordered manufacturers to initiate an immediate, full product recall and to ban all advertising and promotion of the prohibited beverages.
