President William Ruto has said 20 per cent of homes being developed under the affordable housing programme will be reserved for teachers.
Ruto said the arrangement, agreed between the Affordable Housing Board, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), will give teachers a dedicated share of units in affordable housing developments.
"In September 2025, the Affordable Housing Board signed an agreement with KNUT and KUPPET. Under that agreement, one in every five homes in affordable housing developments is reserved for you," Ruto said.
Speaking during World Teachers' Day celebrations on Monday, Ruto said the government was also working with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to make it easier for teachers to acquire the homes through a check-off system.
