Russian-American heads Trump's planned Caucasus trade route

Russian-American businessman Konstantin Sokolov has been appointed to lead a US-backed investment fund focused on the 'Trump Route,' a transit corridor through the South Caucasus. The project aims to establish a trade route connecting Europe to Central Asia while bypassing Russia and Iran.

In mid-July, Sokolov - who emigrated from Russia to the US at age 21 and later founded the investment firm IJS Investments in Chicago - was appointed to head a new investment fund of the US State Department.
