Russia's defence ministry said it had launched a "massive strike" against "Ukrainian military-industrial complex facilities and logistics centres in Kyiv".
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine downed only one out of 27 Russian ballistic missiles during the attack due to a lack of interceptors.
