Russia backs India's claim to UNSC seat, firmly shuts door on Germany & Japan

Russia on Saturday backed a permanent seat for India and Brazil on the United Nations Security Council, while strongly opposing the same for more Western countries.During his speech at the General Assembly, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said no additional seats at the UNSC should be given to Western countries, especially to Germany and US ally, Japan.Russia has been one of the most consistent supporters of India’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
