Russell to start from back of Singapore grid after penalty

Mercedes driver George Russell will start from the back of the grid at the Singapore Grand Prix due to a power-unit penalty. This follows a disappointing retirement in the previous race, which has impacted his team's standing in the championship.
Why it matters
The penalty significantly hampers Russell's ability to compete for the world title and highlights the ongoing mechanical reliability issues faced by the Mercedes team.

Britain's George Russell will start from the back of the grid in Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver has received a power-unit penalty from a dramatic Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia last Sunday.
The 28-year-old qualified in eighth but was heading for a podium finish before an engine failure forced him to retire from third place with five laps remaining.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed that Russell needs to take a new power unit this weekend, putting him over the limit on several components and meaning he will be penalised in Singapore.
Russell's retirement last Sunday meant Kimi Antonelli, who finished second behind Max Verstappen, took a big leap towards his first Formula 1 world title as the Italian is now 84 points ahead of his Mercedes team-mate.
