Russell Brand ‘had maniacal grin during Soho bar sexual assault’
During his ongoing trial, Russell Brand was accused by a witness of sexually assaulting her in a London bar in 2004. The witness testified that Brand acted with a 'maniacal grin' during the alleged incident, which he denies.
Why it matters
The trial is a high-profile legal case involving allegations of sexual misconduct against a prominent former media figure.
RUSSELL BRAND WAS grinning “like a clown” after he sexually assaulted a woman in the middle of a crowded Soho bar, a court has heard.
The former comedian and TV host, now 51, is accused of groping a woman’s breasts before dragging her into a toilet to perform a sex act.
In her recorded interview with police, the woman said she was excited to meet Brand at the 2004 birthday party, but said within a minute of starting a conversation he had sexually assaulted her.
She alleges Brand then told her “don’t be a spoilsport” while forcing her to perform oral sex in the toilet cubicle.
She said: “He literally just grabbed my boobs, out of nowhere, just in the middle of a conversation and I just remember this weird maniacal grin, looming in front of me as he just grabbed my boobs.”
