Rupee rises 19 paise to close at 95.17 against U.S. dollar
The Indian rupee appreciated by 19 paise to close at 95.17 against the U.S. dollar, marking four consecutive days of gains. The rise is attributed to Reserve Bank of India interventions aimed at curbing speculative trading and a weakening dollar.
Why it matters
Currency fluctuations impact national inflation and trade, making RBI interventions a critical indicator of economic stability.
The rupee appreciated by 19 paise to close at 95.17 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday (October 14, 2026), registering the fourth straight session of gains, supported by Reserve Bank of India interventions aimed at easing near-term dollar demand and limiting speculative foreign exchange exposure.
Forex traders said the Indian rupee rose to a one-month high on the RBI's measures to curb speculative bets. A weak dollar and easing of U.S. Treasury yields also aided the rupee. However, weak domestic markets capped sharp gains.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.05 against the U.S. dollar; in intraday trade, the rupee touched a high of 94.76 and a low of 95.19 against the greenback.
At the end of the trading session on Wednesday (October 14), the rupee was quoted at 95.17 (provisional), registering a gain of 19 paise from its previous close.
