NZ Kiwis coach Stacey Jones has reportedly received a huge boost for this year’s Rugby World Cup, with Newcastle Knights centre Dane Gagai cleared to switch allegiance from Australia.
New Zealand Rugby League and International Rugby League have both confirmed Gagai will be allowed to represent the Kiwis, given “special circumstances” considering he’s previously played for the Kangaroos.
has confirmed the 35-year-old has been cleared to play for the Kiwis, despite an attempted block by International Rugby League, after his appeal was upheld.
“Dane hasn’t played for Australia for eight years and we didn’t want him to be disadvantaged compared to other players with recent rule changes,” International Rugby League Chair Troy Grant said.
