RTÉ has announced that the second season of the reality competition show The Traitors Ireland will premiere on August 30th. The show, filmed at Slane Castle, features contestants competing in a game of social deduction for a €50,000 prize.
Why it matters
The show is a significant ratings driver for Irish public service broadcasting, highlighting the continued popularity of the reality competition format.
The Traitors Ireland will return to RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, August 30th.
Season one of The Traitors Ireland, which was produced by Kite Entertainment and presented by Derry Girls star Siobhán McSweeney , aired last year and proved a huge hit with Irish audiences.
Last year’s figures showed each episode of The Traitors Ireland drew an average audience of 557,000 and a 50 per cent share of live and same-day viewers.
The final amassed an audience of 732,000 viewers according to the figures released by RTÉ. Breakout star Paudie Moloney, a retired prison officer, appeared as a reality TV show contestant again in Dancing with the Stars.
Taking place in Slane Castle, the reality show gets 24 contestants to play a game of deduction where “faithful” players must eliminate “traitors” to win a €50,000 prize.
