RSS aims at weakening Left movement, says Vijayaraghavan

CPI(M) leader A. Vijayaraghavan has accused the RSS of attempting to weaken the Left movement and influence Indian governance. He criticized the organization's alleged role in shaping national policy on education, history, and social issues.
Why it matters
This reflects the ongoing ideological polarization in Indian politics between the ruling right-wing coalition and the opposition Left.
It is the proclaimed agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to weaken the Left movement in the country, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Polit Bureau member A. Vijayaraghavan has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a debate on ‘RSS’s Taliban Ways,’ organised by the AKG Research Centre in Palakkad on Wednesday (August 5, 2026).
Likening the RSS to the Taliban, Mr. Vijayaraghavan said the organisation controls the BJP, India’s largest right-wing party. The RSS’s influence was adversely affecting the country’s governance, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi showing undue haste in implementing its agenda in areas including history, higher education and literature, he said.
