RPKI Now Protects 70% of Internet Routes, Up from 54% a Year Ago

The adoption of Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) has grown significantly, with 70% of internet routes now protected compared to 54% last year. This security protocol helps prevent BGP hijacking by verifying that networks are authorized to announce specific IP address blocks.
Why it matters
Increased RPKI adoption is vital for improving the overall security and stability of global internet routing.

The Internet relies on networks telling each other which IP addresses they can deliver traffic to, using BGP (Border Gateway Protocol). These routing announcements have historically depended heavily on trust. When a network announces addresses it shouldn’t, accidentally or deliberately, traffic can be sent to the wrong place and services can become unreachable.
