Why it matters
Maintaining public infrastructure and enforcing property laws is essential for urban management and public safety.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Podanur, booked 10 cases of defacement of railway property and unauthorised advertisements during a special enforcement drive conducted from September 29 to October 8. Fines totalling ₹5,000 were collected.
The drive covered Podanur Railway Station, Nanjundapuram Road, Railway Colony, Podanur railway yard and railway bridges. The cases involved unauthorised writings and advertisements on compound walls and other railway structures.
The advertisements were for commercial establishments, including tutorial centres, an optical shop, a sports establishment, an IAS academy and a hardware business.
The respective firms and advertisers removed the unauthorised advertisements and whitewashed the affected portions at their own expense, restoring the premises without any expenditure to the Railways.
