James Mckeown-trained Royal Legacy (Akshay K up) won the Zavaray S. Poonawalla Mysore 1000 Guineas (1,600m), the first classic of the season here on Friday (Sept 18). The winner is owned by Mr. P.J. Vazifdar, Mrs. P.J. Vazifdar, Mr. M. Rishad, Mr. K. Kaliyaperumal, Mr. D.R. Thacker rep. DT Racing & Breeders LLP & Mr. S.R. Sanas.

Akshay, racing third for a while, settled into second position till the bend before manoeuvring his mount from the outside in the home stretch. Royal Legacy started galloping with giant strides and overtook leader Shutterfly in the last 400m to win resolutely.
