A controversy has erupted over the access road to the new pilgrim accommodation complex constructed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on the southern side of the Tirupati railway station.
The issue has taken on political significance ahead of the local body polls with political parties targeting the TTD, and indirectly the State government over the decision to restrict colonies abutting the road access to it.
It may be recalled that the TTD began construction of the two large twin complexes— Achyutham and Sripatham, at the site of its decades-old Sri Govindaraja Choultries that existed at the same spot, located just south of the railway station. The project intends to provide accommodation to the pilgrims arriving by train, reducing crowding in the city.
