Rough weather alert: safety measures in place in Kozhikode to mitigate natural calamities

The district administration has imposed a complete ban on non-essential travel to hilly and high-altitude areas of the district from 7 p.m. on Thursday (September 24, 2026) to 7 a.m. on Friday (September 25, 2026) in view of the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds under the influence of an intense depression formed over the Bay of Bengal.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has warned of the possibility of landslips, landslides, uprooting of trees, and flash floods, particularly in the hilly areas. The police will impose traffic restrictions on landslide-prone roads in areas including Thamarassery, Thiruvambady, and Koorachundu. Emergency vehicles involved in disaster management operations will be exempted from the restrictions.

The district administration has also prohibited recreational activities and fishing in rivers, quarries, tourist destinations, and beaches during the period.
