Rollers Bakery, home of Ryan Fox’s favourite pie, targeted in attempted break

A popular Auckland bakery, Rollers Bakery, was forced to close temporarily following an aggressive attempted break-in early Saturday morning. While no one was physically harmed, the incident has left staff shaken and highlighted growing concerns about local crime.
Why it matters
The incident reflects broader community concerns regarding rising retail crime and the impact on small business operations in urban areas.
The popular Auckland bakery behind Ryan Fox’s favourite pie is closed after an attempted break-in early this morning that left staff shaken and the building damaged.
Rollers Bakery co-owner Tamara Tait said her business partner was alone at the Northcote shop baking bread and preparing pastries about 3.30am.
“This guy started coming up to the door, and he just started shoulder-barging the door open and kicking it.”
CCTV footage (shown in the video above) captured the drama. As the man attempted to enter, the baker grabbed bread racks and used them to barricade the entrance.
“The guy smashed some windows and then just left.”
Police told the Herald the alleged offender fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Inquiries are still underway.
Tait said while her business partner was physically unharmed, the experience had left staff shaken.
“He’s all good, but definitely very shaken.”
