Robbers hit Namibian billionaire

Namibian billionaire Jacobus 'Koos' Brandt reported a robbery at his farm in the Otjozondjupa region, though he declined to report the incident to the police due to a lack of confidence in law enforcement. The incident has sparked broader concerns regarding rising crime rates and public safety in Namibia.
Why it matters
The loss of public trust in law enforcement, even among the wealthy, signals a significant breakdown in the social contract and security infrastructure.
Namibian billionaire Jacobus ‘Koos’ Brandt’s farm outside Grootfontein was broken into and ransacked by five suspected robbers last Sunday, one of whom was armed.
Brandt (82) confirmed the break-in to The Namibian yesterday, saying the suspects took valuables from the property. His farm is located in Otjozondjupa region
The businessman is ranked as one of Namibia’s billionaires who helped found Bank Windhoek and Capricorn.
“The one was armed and the others were his assistants, unarmed.
That is about it. They ransacked the place and they took some valuables,” he said.
Brandt said he was already in South Africa when the incident occurred and has not yet assessed the damage or established the value of the stolen items.
He said no one was injured, but farm employees were too frightened to confront the suspects.
“My own people were too scared to come out and defend themselves with an armed robber.
