Rival South West factions claim victory after heavy fighting in Baidoa town

Baidoa (HOL) - Rival South West State factions claimed victory Monday after heavy fighting in Baidoa, as forces loyal to former regional President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen moved to retake the city and the current administration blamed al-Shabab for the assault.

The clashes began early Monday and spread across several parts of Baidoa, the capital of Bay region. Residents reported explosions and sustained gunfire as Laftagareen-aligned Darawish forces attacked positions held by federal troops and forces supporting the administration of President Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe.

The statement also accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's government and T rkiye of carrying out airstrikes against Baidoa during the fighting.

"The Office of the President of the South West State strongly condemns the airstrike shelling involving six missiles directed at civilians in Baidoa district," the statement said.
