Review of Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries under way; process will not affect genuine recipients, says Chandrabhoopal

The Karnataka government is re-verifying beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme using biometric and facial authentication. Officials aim to remove ineligible recipients, such as those who are deceased or tax-paying, while ensuring genuine beneficiaries continue to receive support.
Why it matters
This process reflects ongoing efforts by state governments to improve the efficiency and transparency of direct benefit transfer welfare programs.
The review of beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, a guarantee scheme by the State government, will not affect the genuine recipients, C.S. Chandrabhoopal, Chairman of the Shivamogga district Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, said on Monday.
The report provides a neutral account of government administrative procedures and official statements regarding welfare verification.
