Revenue inspector arrested for bribery in Namakkal

A revenue inspector in Namakkal was arrested by the DVAC for demanding a bribe to finalize an eviction process. The arrest followed a trap set after the victim reported the official's extortion attempt.
Why it matters
This case underscores ongoing efforts to combat administrative corruption in local government land management processes.
A revenue inspector who received bribe to complete an eviction was arrested by the DVAC on Thursday evening.
Chandrasekaran, a farmer residing at Alanganatham near Senthamangalam, approached revenue officials in 2023, alleging that his family’s temple land was encroached upon by someone. He, however, alleged that no action was taken to remove the encroachment. Following this, he moved the Madras High Court, which ordered on June 10, 2026, to remove the encroachment within 12 weeks.
Based on the order, the revenue officials removed the encroachment on September 23 with police protection.
For completing the work, however, Revenue Inspector Jayaraman (40) demanded that Chandrasekaran give him a bribe of ₹10,000. Unwilling to give the bribe, he approached Namakkal DVAC, and they set a trap for the revenue inspector.
