Retired Delhi Police officers to hold dharna over attacks on cops during student protests

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police Retired Officers’ Association has sought permission from the Delhi Police to hold a one-day dharna at Jantar Mantar on July 31 in solidarity with police and paramilitary personnel injured during the recent Parliament protests on July 20 in central Delhi. In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the association requested permission to stage a peaceful demonstration from 11 am to 5 pm at the designated protest site. The association also demanded the identification, arrest, and strict legal action against those responsible for assaulting police personnel and inciting violence during the 'Sansad Chalo' protest. While stating that they respect the democratic right to peaceful protest, the association said action should be taken against "habitual offenders, anti-social elements, gangsters, and violent instigators" involved in the clashes.
