Restore seven hours power supply to pumpsets in Yadgir, GESCOM urged

The Karnataka Rajya Shoshitara Seva Samiti has demanded that the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company restore a seven-hour power supply to agricultural pumpsets. Farmers are facing severe distress due to drought and reduced electricity, which is hindering irrigation efforts.
Why it matters
Reliable power for irrigation is essential for agricultural survival in drought-prone regions, directly impacting food security and farmer livelihoods.
The Karnataka Rajya Shoshitara Seva Samiti has urged the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) to restore uninterrupted seven-hour power supply daily to agricultural pumpsets in Yadgir district citing severe agrarian distress.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, State president of the organization Moulali Anpur said that the district is reeling under severe drought, marked by mounting drinking water crisis, acute fodder shortage and standing crops withering due to extended dry spells.
Farmers who rely on groundwater pumped through electric sets to save their crops are in deep distress after GESCOM reduced the daily three-phase power supply to rural areas from seven hours to six hours, Mr. Anpur said.
