Responsibility for Latvian language tests will change hands

Over the past three years, more than 20,000 people have taken the state language proficiency test. They take the test for various reasons - to naturalize, obtain a residence permit, or for work purposes. In the future, it is planned to introduce a state language test for all those who have learned Latvian with state funds. This is necessary to clarify the effectiveness of state-funded language courses, said Lana Franceska Dreimane, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science. As Latvian Radio has already reported, in the future, the Latvian Language Agency will be the main body responsible for teaching Latvian to adults. Dreimane said: "Both the training and the state language test and certificates require consistency in methodology, which, as we see, has been a weak point in this story of inter-institutional fragmentation.
