Residents of Bharaniputhur of Iyyapanthangal are disappointed that the renovation of the local pond has been initiated without removing the encroachments. The residents’ main demand has been the removal of encroachments from the pond.
The pond, belonging to the Agatheeswarar temple, was once used for celebrating temple festivals. However, over the years, the pond has been encroached, with the latest being a party office of the TVK being planned to be opened.
The residents of the locality had been requesting the Kundrathur Taluk to renovate the pond, which was in a dilapidated condition for several years with garbage being dumped and sewage let in. Added to this, slowly thatched huts came up and were replaced by concrete houses.
