Aging urban infrastructure and public health crises are critical issues for metropolitan governance and citizen safety.
Residents have complained on social media about sewage contamination of drinking water in the city.
In a social media post, a resident complained about suspected sewage contamination of water in a residential complex on ECR in Thiruvanmiyur.
Another social media post read: “Over 50 of our staff who came for our function from various locations in Tamilnadu are having food poisoning, most likely from the hotel food on ECR. I have given instructions, if they have severe vomiting and diarrhea, to go to the government hospital. Health of our staff is our paramount interest. It is a serious issue that should be avoided henceforth.”
Officials said the incidents may be isolated and advised residents to drink only boiled water, as home Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants can easily become contaminated.
