To encourage residents of the merged areas to obtain water and sewerage connections, Chennai Metrowater has outlined the procedures and charges involved in receiving them. Applications, along with the required documents, must be submitted online, according to the water agency.

Metrowater has been executing projects to expand its water supply and sewer network in the merged areas. Areas provided with piped water supply infrastructure include Idayanchavadi, Porur, Madhavaram, Kottivakkam, Madipakkam, Sholinganallur and Neelankarai. Similarly, areas such as Nerkundram, Manapakkam, and Uthandi have been provided with sewer network, a press release said.

Officials said several residents had raised queries regarding the procedures to obtain connections in localities where the water supply and sewer networks had been completed. On average, the water agency receives about 2,000 applications for house service connections.
