Research: Spring Break Deadliest for Florida Travel
A new study from the University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University identifies the spring break period as the most dangerous time for travel in Florida. Researchers found that fatalities and injuries significantly spike during this window compared to other holidays.
Why it matters
The findings provide critical data for public safety officials to address the hidden costs of tourism and seasonal traffic patterns in high-density travel regions.
On any given U.S. holiday, traffic crashes claim more than 500 lives. But according to a new study published in Risk Analysis , the real danger lurks early in the annual calendar. The spring break window (from late February through early April) carries a significantly higher traffic fatality and injury risk than the Thanksgiving to New Year's Day holiday stretch, and every other period of the year.
The report is based on academic research and statistical analysis of government data, maintaining an objective tone.
