Repeal recent Assembly polls, INDIA bloc urges President

The opposition INDIA bloc has petitioned the President of India to repeal recent assembly elections, alleging massive electoral fraud. The coalition is demanding a return to paper ballots and the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Why it matters
This move represents a significant escalation in political tension, challenging the integrity of the electoral process and the legitimacy of current state governments.
The Opposition INDIA bloc on Friday (October 9, 2026) urged President Droupadi Murmu to “repeal” all Assembly elections held over the last two years, saying they have “incontrovertible proof” of “vote chori ” (theft).
Before their meeting with the President, the Opposition leaders gathered at the central hall of Samvidhan Sadan, where according to sources, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claimed that the government is “rattled” and if the Opposition continues its campaign, the government could fall without completing its full term.
“We have incontrovertible proof that vote chori has taken place on a massive scale in election after election. Assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal have been stolen,” the memorandum said.
The Opposition bloc is also scheduled to meet Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Monday (October 12) with a similar memorandum.
