Following the formation of the South Coast Railway Zone on June 1, the erstwhile Waltair Division split into the Visakhapatnam and Rayagada divisions. This restructuring left many railway employees in the State, particularly in the Kottavalasa-Kirandul and Rayagada sections in Odisha and Chhattisgarh anxious about transfer opportunities back to Andhra Pradesh and the protection of their promotional prospects.
