Why it matters
Addressing this issue is vital for public health in India, where high diabetes rates lead to significant rates of avoidable disability.
New Delhi: Nearly 80% of lower-limb amputations can be prevented through early detection and timely treatment, vascular specialists said at an international conference in Delhi, warning that delayed treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, infections and poor blood circulation often leads to avoidable limb loss.
The warning was issued at the VSI-ASVS 2026 International Conference, held at Hotel Pullman and Novotel, Aerocity, from October 8 to 10. The conference brought together more than 400 faculty members and over 1,000 delegates from India and abroad to discuss advances and emerging challenges in vascular and endovascular surgery.
