Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko comes out against Liam Lawson keeping Racing Bulls seat

Former Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko has publicly suggested that Liam Lawson should not retain his Racing Bulls seat, arguing that the team should prioritize developing new talent like Nikola Tsolov. Despite this, reports indicate that Lawson is likely to be confirmed for the upcoming season.
Why it matters
The decision impacts the driver lineup for a major Formula One team and highlights the tension between development-focused philosophies and performance-based retention.
As Liam Lawson waits to learn his Formula One future, one of the most decisive figures in his rise to motorsport’s pinnacle has sided against him.
Lawson, 24, is one of two drivers yet to learn whether he’ll be on the grid next season , along with Racing Bulls teammate Arvid Lindblad.
Multiple sources have indicated to the Herald that Lawson will be retained, with one saying it’s now a case of “when and not if” he’s confirmed to remain at Racing Bulls as part of an unchanged line-up.
However, with the Kiwi understood to be vying with Bulgarian Formula Two driver Nikola Tsolov for a seat, Racing Bulls’ purpose as a development pathway into Red Bull’s senior side will come into focus.
