Re-route weekend special between Bengaluru and Madgaon via Mangaluru, MLC tells Railways
An MLC in Karnataka is urging the South Western Railway to re-route a weekend special train to include a stop in Mangaluru. The official argues that Mangaluru's economic and regional importance warrants better railway connectivity.
Why it matters
Improved infrastructure and transport connectivity are critical for the economic development of growing regional hubs.
Seeking a comprehensive review of railway timetable and services serving Mangaluru region, MLC P.V. Mohan on Thursday urged South Western Railway to re-route the Bengaluru Cantonment – Madgaon – Bengaluru Cantonment weekend special train via Mangaluru.
In a statement here, Mr. Mohan took serious exception to Railways operating the special train (Train 06597/06598) after skipping Mangaluru region and said, “The absence of a halt for a major city like Mangaluru should not be viewed merely as a minor timetable issue. In view of the current passenger demand, the city’s growth and its economic and regional importance, there is a need for a comprehensive review of railway services to Mangaluru.”
