Rare brain surgery in Vijayapura hospital saves woman
Doctors at B.L.D.E. Medical College in Karnataka successfully performed a complex brain surgery on a 47-year-old woman suffering from a ruptured aneurysm. The life-saving procedure was provided free of charge under the Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka government health scheme.

Renavva Nalatwada, 47, of Chittaragi village in Hunagunda taluk of Bagalkot district in Karnataka was suffering from severe grade-4 subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and right middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysm. The rupture of the aneurysm caused severe bleeding around the brain. CT and angiography tests revealed a bilobed aneurysm in the right MCA bifurcation. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the doctors suggested urgent microsurgical treatment.
The doctors clipped the neck of the aneurysm during the surgery while safely preserving the important MCA branches and the delicate perforator veins that supply blood to the brain. Despite being in a critical condition, the patient’s recovery was excellent, with no new neurological deficits observed after the surgery.
