The article illustrates the intersection of local infrastructure development disputes and broader national political rivalries between the BJP and Congress.
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday demanded that the state government provide fair compensation to people losing their lands, houses and commercial properties to the Rajiv Rahadari highway expansion project.
Expressing support for the ongoing protest by affected property owners along the road-widening stretch in Karkhana, Secunderabad, he said that since residents were cooperating with the project, they deserved compensation that reflected the true market value of their properties.
Mr. Rao said the compensation package should be revised on the lines of the enhanced compensation provided in the Thumkunta area. He noted that affected residents were making significant sacrifices for a public purpose and should be adequately compensated.
