Rajya Sabha member calls for special policy for rights of nomadic communities

Rajya Sabha member Paka Venkata Satyanarayana on Monday (August 31, 2026) stressed the need to formulate a special policy to ensure that the benefits envisaged in the Constitution reach Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNTs, NTs, and SNTs) in full measure. He stated that a vast majority of these tribes continue to face several social and economic hardships even after 80 years of independence.

Participating as the chief guest in a programme organised by the BJP to mark the Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes Day in Vijayawada on Monday, Mr. Satyanarayana said the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and minority communities were benefiting from various welfare schemes but several generations of the DNTs, NTs and SNTs were largely deprived of the benefits due to the lack of a comprehensive assessment of their living conditions.
