Rainfall zone to continue crossing Latvia, affecting weather conditions

Latvia is experiencing a period of unsettled weather, with rain and thunderstorms expected across the country through mid-week. Conditions are forecast to improve toward the weekend as a high-pressure system brings sunnier and warmer weather.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 11th and the 12th of August, a band of precipitation will continue to move across Latvia, bringing periods of rain to most of the country. Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are also expected in some eastern and central areas, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Light to moderate westerly and northwesterly winds will prevail. On Tuesday, wind gusts will reach 15–19 m/s, increasing to as much as 20 m/s in central parts of the country. On Wednesday, gusts of 15–16 m/s will persist only overnight along the Gulf coast.
