Railways making arrangements to transport rescued victims of Nepal floods
Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the railway network is facilitating the transport of flood-affected passengers from Nepal. Additionally, the inauguration of the newly electrified Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail section aims to improve regional connectivity.

Expressing concern over the devastating floods in Nepal , Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday (August 31, 2026) said the Railways is making arrangements for rescued passengers arriving in India.
He said that the Railways has arranged special coaches and other necessary facilities to help them reach their destinations. “The Railway Board is working in coordination with railway zones, district and state authorities and the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the safe movement and return of passengers affected by the situation in Nepal,” Mr. Vaishnaw said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the gauge conversion and electrification of the Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail section. The 56.15-km section has been converted to broad gauge and electrified at a cost of approximately ₹730 crore. Four existing train services have been extended up to Nepalganj Road.
