Railways looks beyond own cadres for construction wing overhaul

Indian Railways appears set to open its doors to officers beyond its traditional cadre pool. It has signalled plans to induct officers from the Indian Forest Service, revenue departments and other public utility organisations on deputation to zonal railways to accelerate the execution of ongoing infrastructure projects.
According to senior officials, the Railway Board has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the construction wings in zonal railways, transforming them into near-autonomous entities with greater operational continuity and accountability. This is to strengthen project execution and improve the timely completion of ongoing railway works across the country.
