Railway Ministry plans to develop station at Villianur: Puducherry L-G

The Railway Ministry has major plans for the development of railway sector in Puducherry, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan said here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the third edition of CII’s Puducherry IndEx 2026, the Lt. Governor said there was an urgent need for setting up a terminal railway station in Puducherry as it would help in operating more trains from here.
“We will see a new station coming up at Villianur with the Railway Ministry initiating measures in this regard. Steps are also being taken to provide rail connectivity to more destinations and operate faster trains from the territory,” the Lt. Governor said.
He further emphasised the potential of Karaikal as a port-led industrial development centre, stating that increasing port capacity and attracting industries around the port could create significant opportunities for industrial growth in the region.
