NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday demanded the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as opposition parties, student groups and civil society organisations held protests in Delhi and Mumbai over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision exercise.In a post on X on Gandhi Jayanti, the Raebareli MP said thousands of young people were protesting peacefully against what he called “vote theft” and alleged that hundreds had been detained.“Today is Gandhi Jayanti. And today, thousands of young people are on the streets against vote theft - peacefully, without violence, exercising their constitutional rights. Their demand is clear: Gyanesh Kumar must resign. Save democracy,” the Congress leader said.He alleged that the response of the “Modi-Shah government” had been to detain protesters.“And the Modi-Shah government's response? Boys and girls are being dragged off the streets. Hundreds are in custody.
