Rahul and Priyanka opposing SIR to avert internal dissent, says Basavaraj Bommai

BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has accused Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi of opposing electoral roll revisions to suppress internal party dissent. He dismissed their protests as a diversionary tactic to avoid addressing the party's past performance.
Why it matters
The statement underscores the ongoing political friction between the BJP and Congress regarding electoral processes in Karnataka.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday alleged that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in an attempt to prevent internal dissent within the party.
Speaking to reporters after attending the nomination filing of BJP candidate S.V. Sankanur for the Karnataka West Graduates’ Constituency in Dharwad on Tuesday, Mr. Bommai said the Congress leaders’ protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was aimed at diverting attention from what he described as the party’s shortcomings over the past 15 years.
“If they do not raise such issues, they will face internal rebellion in the coming days. The protests are being used to prevent such dissent,” he alleged.
