Race of Champions event set for Wellington with Hayden Paddon keen to team up with Shane van Gisbergen or Liam Lawson

The 2027 Race of Champions is scheduled to take place in Wellington, New Zealand. Rally driver Hayden Paddon is hoping to recruit fellow Kiwi stars like Shane van Gisbergen or Liam Lawson to join his team for the event.
Why it matters
This event highlights the growing profile of international motorsport in New Zealand and the potential for high-profile cross-disciplinary driver collaborations.
Hayden Paddon could be joined by either Shane van Gisbergen or Liam Lawson to make up the Kiwi team at next year's Race of Champions while Chaz Mostert will also compete.
There’s an intriguing potential for next year’s Race of Champions (ROC). Even more so now that it has been announced the 2027 iteration will be held at Hnry Stadium (or as it’s more affectionately known, The Cake Tin) in Wellington, January 9-10.
New Zealand’s most successful rally driver, Hayden Paddon, could be joined by either Shane van Gisbergen, Liam Lawson or Mad Mike Whiddett to make up the Kiwi team.
Paddon was at the launch of the event in Wellington, and while neither van Gisbergen, Lawson nor Whiddett was confirmed, the window of opportunity is pretty good considering international motorsport is on its customary break at the beginning of each year.
