The 26-year old stormed home past Kenyan Diana Wanza to claim gold in the women’s 10,000m race, becoming the first Australian female to win the race.

Finishing nearly 11 seconds clear of Wanza with a time of 31:39.32, Davies began the athletics portion of the Games in spectacular style.
