This highlights the dual challenge of infrastructure development and public safety management in developing economies, balancing economic growth with human life.
Over the past five years, the Roads Authority has delivered road construction and maintenance works valued at approximately N$16.5 billion.
Of this amount, local contractors executed works valued at approximately N$9.25 billion, representing 56.06%, while foreign contractors and Namibian–foreign joint ventures executed works valued at approximately N$7.25 billion, representing 43.94%.
Roads Authority’s board of directors’ chairperson, Martins Kambulu, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to the Namibian nation to developing and maintaining a road network that meets the needs of the country’s citizens and economy.
“These figures demonstrate the important role that the road infrastructure programme plays in creating opportunities for local contractors, employment and skills development. We also remain committed to implementing projects fairly, transparently and accountably, in accordance with applicable procurement laws and regulations,” Kambulu concluded.
