Queen Camilla calls for togetherness amid Spencer row

Queen Camilla has espoused the need for togetherness amid an ongoing row over damaging allegations in Earl Spencer’s new memoir.

Speaking at her annual book festival in Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, she said she was “recently reminded of a rather beautiful proverb, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together’”.

Her comments come amid a war of words between Lord Charles Spencer and Buckingham Palace over his forthcoming memoir about Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Queen’s speech at the fourth Queen’s Reading Room Festival followed the late Princess’s younger brother doubling down on Friday night over his claims that the King made disparaging comments about Diana in the days after her death.

Spencer has suggested that the King is embarrassed about the “monstrous” alleged comment in the former’s memoir that the Princess would be forgotten “soon enough”.
