Why it matters
Infrastructure development projects are vital for regional economic connectivity, though they often involve complex inter-governmental funding negotiations.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has requested Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to facilitate extension of the proposed elevated road corridor along Cuddalore - Puducherry Road up to Mullodai junction.
The Chief Minister in a letter to the Union Minister has drawn his attention to the proposed plan of the Ministry for improvement / widening of the Puducherry - Cuddalore Road up to Mullodai at a cost of ₹650 crore. The proposal was to construct an elevated corridor for 2.6 km and widen the remaining stretch of 13.3 km.
The Ministry should consider expanding the proposed project plan to provide an elevated corridor up to Mullodai border to facilitate free flow of vehicles on the Puducherry - Cuddalore Road. The extension of the elevated corridor would require additional funds to the tune of ₹1,500 crore, the letter said.
