PUBG’s LMG Rebalance Draws Mixed Reactions

Krafton recently introduced deliberate imbalances in weapon performance, including buffs limited to light machine guns (LMGs). Weapon balance is a particularly sensitive issue in first-person shooter (FPS) games, drawing industry attention to Krafton's unconventional experiment.
Krafton rolled out Update 42.3 for PUBG on Aug. 12. The update added the RPD, the game's first new firearm in three years, and introduced the first meta rotation with an LMG rebalance.
Meta rotation is a new direction Krafton unveiled in its 2026 roadmap in March. After more than nine years of service, PUBG has seen certain weapons dominate the meta for extended periods, leading combat and battlefield dynamics to become increasingly fixed. Krafton introduced meta rotation to change those patterns. In effect, the developer highlights specific weapons to shape gameplay and encourage players to use them, rotating the dominant weapon category every four months.
