PSAC urges President Marcos to fast-track cyber, AI measures

The Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) is urging the Philippine government to accelerate reforms in cybersecurity and AI infrastructure. The council emphasizes the need for data sovereignty and improved emergency protocols to support economic growth.
Why it matters
Strengthening digital infrastructure is critical for national security and the competitiveness of the country's IT-BPM industry.
The Private Sector Advisory Council’s Digital Infrastructure Sector (PSAC-Digital Infra) has urged President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to accelerate reforms on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), fiber deployment, and rural connectivity to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and support long-term economic growth.
During the council’s 10th meeting in Malacañang, PSAC-Digital Infra welcomed the President’s signing of Executive Order (EO) No. 119, which updates the government’s data classification framework and establishes a national data residency policy.
The council said the order addresses a long-standing regulatory gap and provides cloud providers, data center operators, and technology investors with greater policy certainty while strengthening the country’s data sovereignty. It also emphasized the need to advance the country’s AI sovereignty alongside these initiatives.
To bolster cybersecurity, PSAC-Digital Infra recommended adopting a coordinated national approach to protecting the country’s critical information infrastructure, much of which is privately owned and operated.
