PS5 AI upscaler Quick Spectral Super Resolution announced

Sony has introduced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), an AI-based upscaling technology designed for the base PlayStation 5 console. The feature aims to improve image detail and stability, with initial support arriving via patches for Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei.
Why it matters
This update extends high-end AI graphical features to the standard PS5 hardware, potentially prolonging the console's lifecycle and enhancing user experience.
/ 12:12 PM EDT 0 PlayStation 5 will introduce Quick Spectral Super Resolution—the base console equivalent of PlayStation 5 Pro’s artificial intelligence upscaling solution PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution— Sony Interactive Entertainment announced .
“[PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution] analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses [artificial intelligence] to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to [base PlayStation 5] impossible,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment graphics research and development principal engineer Daniel Craig.
Quick Spectral Super Resolution is a new performance tier of artificial intelligence upscaling, and an offshoot of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. It is built on a streamlined neural network architecture, with hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on base PlayStation 5 consoles.
